Agartala: May 25: A high-level meeting was convened today in Unakoti district to assess the law and order situation and reinforce efforts to combat drug abuse. The meeting was held at the office of the Superintendent of Police (SP) in the district headquarters, Kailashahar, and was chaired by Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar.
Among those present were DIG Rati Ranjan Debnath, SP Avinash Rai—in charge of both North Tripura and Unakoti districts—along with sub-divisional police officers, station house officers, and senior personnel from various security agencies.
Addressing the media after the meeting, DGP Anurag Dhankar said this was his first official visit to Unakoti as DGP, though he had visited the district several times in the past. Emphasizing the role of the public in upholding law and order, he remarked, “Maintaining peace is not just the job of the police—it requires active cooperation from every citizen.” He called upon all sections of society to support law enforcement efforts.
The DGP underlined that the core purpose of his visit was to chalk out strategies aligned with the Chief Minister’s vision of a ‘Drug-Free Tripura’. He shared that the state's current conviction rate exceeds 30%, reflecting progress in criminal justice delivery.
He also informed that his visit would continue with stops in Dharmanagar (North Tripura) and at the 13th TSR Battalion in Kanchanpur, where he will interact with the forces.
Amid his visit, speculation within administrative circles suggests that the Tripura Police may soon introduce stricter and more proactive measures to curb drug trafficking and abuse—an area of growing concern across the state.
