Tripura Chamber of Trade and Business (TCTB) on Monday welcomed the decision of the Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) for imposing restrictions on import of certain goods from Bangladesh through land ports. The DGF has imposed restrictions by issuing a notification imposing port restrictions on the import of certain goods such as readymade garments, processed food items, plastic goods etc. from Bangladesh to India. However, the restriction will not apply to Bangladesh goods transiting through India but destined for Nepal and Bhutan.“We welcome the DGFT restriction on import of goods from Bangladesh because the country's interest comes first above anything else. The Bangladesh exporters who send substantial goods through land ports will be the maximum losers following the move”, TCTB’s general secretary, Rajat Paul said.According to him, Akhaura Integrated Check Post (ICP) located near Agartala records 14,000 to 15,000 dollar trade per day of which 95 percent counts for export.Paul said around 28 cement manufacturing factories are functioning in Bangladesh’s Comilla and Brahmanbaria andsupplying huge quantities of cement to the northeastern states.
