Within just a year and a half of its construction, the newly built legislator hostel in Tripura has started to show alarming signs of deterioration. Cracks have appeared on the roof, causing water leakage during rains, and the condition of doors and windows has also become deplorable. The issue came to light after ruling party MLA Pramod Riyan, representing Santirbazar, publicly raised concerns about the construction quality. The legislator hostel, constructed under the General Administration Department, was intended to be a vital accommodation facility for state politicians. However, the rapid decline in its condition has shocked both the public and the MLA himself.Speaking to reporters, Pramod Riyan said, “If this is the condition of the hostel within just one and a half years, it will soon become uninhabitable. The construction was of extremely poor quality. The roof has developed cracks, water leaks into rooms when it rains, and the doors and windows are in terrible shape. This is truly unfortunate and concerning.”He further questioned the overall quality of government construction projects, stating that if such conditions exist in a facility meant for legislators, the standard of work in other departments can easily be imagined. Riyan also raised questions about the role of contractors and engineers involved in the project under the General Administration Department. As of now, the administration has not issued any official response. However, with the matter raised by a ruling party legislator, demands for investigation and accountability have begun surfacing from various quarters.Given that the hostel was built using taxpayers’ money, citizens are now demanding immediate renovation and strict action against those responsible for the substandard construction.
