Agartala, May 7 — In coordination with a nationwide initiative, a civil defense mock drill was conducted simultaneously across all eight districts of Tripura at 3:30 PM today. In Agartala, the central drill was held at Umakanta School, where various emergency response protocols were demonstrated. As part of the simulation, sirens were sounded near the Chief Minister’s residence to replicate an alert situation.

According to official directives, power supply in Agartala will be temporarily suspended from 5:30 PM to 5:40 PM as part of the drill. This brief outage was announced in a public interest notice by Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) to ensure public awareness and cooperation.

The primary aim of the mock drill was to assess the state's readiness in the event of enemy attacks, natural disasters, or man-made emergencies. The exercise focused on evaluating the alert systems, evacuation strategies, emergency rescue operations, and the restoration of essential services. The drill was led by each district’s Disaster Management Authority and Civil Defense Corps, with support from police, fire services, medical teams, and other emergency units.

Dr. Vishal Kumar, District Magistrate of West Tripura, informed that the drill at Umakanta School saw active participation from NCC cadets, Tripura State Rifles (TSR), Home Guards, Apada Mitra volunteers, medical personnel, and the Tripura Fire and Emergency Services.

He added that the drill will continue until 6:30 PM, with sirens scheduled at 4:00 PM and 5:30 PM to indicate different phases of the operation. Authorities urged the public to remain calm and cooperate, stating that the mock drill is essential for strengthening the state’s disaster response infrastructure.
