Over 20 shops looted by thieves at Belonia in one night

A gang of burglars on Tuesday night went on a burglary spree looting as many as 25 shops of Uttar Bharat Bazar of Belonia, South Tripura. According to initial reports, a group of unidentified burglars broke into 25 shops under the cover of darkness. They dismantled shutters, broke locks, and in at least one instance, using fire to force entry. Cash amounting to an estimated Rs 3 to 4 lakh was looted, while the value of the stolen article is yet to be assessed.In a clear attempt to avoid identification, the burglars disabled CCTV systems at several establishments—either damaging cameras and monitors or turning them away. Police, along with forensic experts and the dog squad, launched an investigation immediately after the incident. Two iron rods and a pair of shoes, believed to have been used by the culprits, were recovered from the scene.Shopkeepers on the other hand alleged that such an act could have been avoided had the police been alert.
