Tripura Congress Slams Centre Over Ceasefire Decision With Pakistan

Agartala, May 15: Tripura Pradesh Congress has launched a sharp attack on the central government over its recent ceasefire decision with Pakistan. Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhavan in Agartala on Thursday, Congress Working Committee member Sudip Roy Barman questioned what he called the Centre’s “reckless decision,” labelling it a “betrayal of the united sentiment of the Indian people.”
He remarked, “After a long time, the entire nation had come together against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. All political parties, including Congress, stood by the central government during this critical phase of national security. Our armed forces fulfilled their duties with success. Yet, the way the ceasefire has been accepted raises several troubling questions.”
Barman questioned the logic of accepting an unconditional ceasefire when Pakistan was under intense diplomatic and strategic pressure. “The fight against terrorism began decisively, but it ended in trade talks. Terror masterminds like Hafiz Saeed and Masood Azhar remain untouched. What message is India sending to the world? And when did Donald Trump gain the right to interfere in our foreign policy?” he asked.
He also raised concerns about India's diplomatic standing. “While some countries supported India initially after the attacks, they did not stand with us during border tensions. China and Turkey openly sided with Pakistan. Where does that leave our diplomatic strength?” Barman questioned.
The Congress leader also strongly criticised the BJP's IT cell, accusing it of spreading fake, AI-generated images on social media. “Despite multiple complaints, the police have taken no action. Spreading misinformation like this is extremely dangerous for democracy,” he warned.
Barman concluded by demanding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi provide public accountability regarding the ceasefire and clarify India’s diplomatic and security strategy in light of recent events.
